Responsibility

As a business owner and entrepreneur, I believe it is my responsibility to lead and aim for a better world. I am committed to implementing and upholding several important areas where my business is able to do good in the world.

As a passionate advocate for climate change action world-wide, I am committed to doing everything I can to reduce my carbon foot-print. As part of that commitment, I have the following policies in place:

  • This website is hosted by Australian company True Green®, a 100% green web hosting company that shares my passion for a greener future.
  • My office space (and home) are powered by Energy Locals, an Australian owned carbon neutral non-profit which supports new renewable energy projects.
  • I absorb higher production costs in order to ship all my snow globes in “Pearl Cotton” eco-foam. Not only is eco-foam denser and more protective than regular styrofoam, it doesn’t shed and is 100% recyclable. Regular styrofoam is cheaper and easier to access, and most of my competitors still choose to use it, despite its toxicity. Eco-foam is an important factor in ensuring I do not contribute to landfill or damage the earth through my actions.
  • My business is signed up to the “Not Business As Usual Alliance”, which is a group of Australian, New Zealand & global businesses who pledged to support worker participation in the climate strikes on September 20 and 27, 2020. I am committed to advocating further for climate change action on behalf of my business.

As an Australian citizen, and in the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work. I pay my respects to their Elders; past, present and emerging. I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that the complexities of living on this land, that remains stolen and occupied, are many and are unresolved.

I am honoured to mentor several refugee women here in Melbourne, Australia.

Faridah, Yeeman and Aseel all came to Australia as refugees and have completed the “Stepping Stones” program with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, which has helped them hone their own unique business ideas.

After mentoring, Yeeman has launched her premium herbal tea range at Tisane Premium Tea.

Aseel is a creative director and cultural leader who uses her practice to advocate for artists of colour, mothers, children and young people, “changing the world, one project at a time.”

Faridah is working on her studies and plans to start making gifts using her unique muslim inspired art.

As a volunteer mentor with BSL, my role is to donate my time to assist these amazing young women to build their successful businesses from scratch.

It is an honour and a privilege for me to undertake this work.
